Students took advantage of Student Resource Time (SRT) to gather in their National History Day teams and work on last minute preparations in the library. It was interesting to watch as they finished creating their project boards, practiced speeches, finished their websites, added last minute touches to their annotated bibliographies and process papers. Mrs. Eberhardt, Mr. Devlin and Mr. Ringler wish all our 8th grade students a well deserved break after all their hard work and effort this past two months!
Mrs. Lori Roe worked with students in Mr. Devlin and Mr. Ringler's history classes this week. She teaches public speaking classes at Ivy Tech in Warsaw, and volunteered her time to teach these skills to Edgewood students in preparation for their National History Day (NHD) speeches. She helped students come up with attention-getters and introductions to speeches, how to project the voice, getting over anxiety. Everyone who met with Mrs. Roe said she was a huge help. We are so appreciative of her help!
For the past several weeks the 7th grade social studies classes have been researching for their National History Day projects. They have been learning about thesis statements, citations, annotations, researching and reading for on-topic information, in-text citations, and how to find and cite legal picture sources from Google. The theme for National History Day this year is "Tragedy and Triumph" so the topics chosen had to match BOTH of these themes. Presentations on a wide variety of topics were on Tuesday, Dec. 4.
