Picture retake day is Tuesday, Nov. 21.  Any student who was absent will have their picture taken on this day. This ensures all students will have their picture in our yearbook.
If you wish to purchase a packet, go to blossersstudio.com or call Blosser's at 574-267-5400.

For students who already had their picture taken but would like a retake, they need to bring their entire packet back and give to the photographer. The student should be able to let the photographer know what was wrong with the original picture so that the new picture corrects that problem.

Again, any questions should be directed to Blosser's Studio.

As we prepare for the first quarter honor roll reception, we wanted to share an important change to the Edgewood honor roll program.  This year, we will be following the Cum Laude system for recognition.  This system is based on a 4 point scale and will have three levels of recognition.  This is the same GPA recognition system being used at the high school.  Each student's quarterly GPA will be calculated and the following grade point system will be used: Cum Laude:  3.5 - 3.69  These students will receive an honor roll certificate.

Magnum Cum Laude:  3.7 - 3.89  These students will receive a silver lantern and an honor roll certificate with a silver honors sticker.

Summa Cum Laude:  3.9 - 4  These students will receive a gold lantern and an honor roll certificate with a gold honors sticker.

This will replace the old honor roll model of all A's (high honors) and all A's and B's (honors)  Students can access their first quarter GPA by looking at Power School.  Please note:  A student may have earned three A's and 4 B's and not meet the GPA for Cum Laude.   Invitations will be distributed to eligible students by the end of the week. Honor Roll Reception Dates for first quarter will be at 8:00 a.m.:  November 16 for 7th grade, November 17 for 8th grade.

During the transition from 12 point to 4 point scale:  PowerSchool will calculate on a 12 point scale while the classes of 2018 and 2019 are enrolled because those classes are still on a 12 point scale.  The grades are changed from a 12 point to a 4 point scale once they are stored. The system will transition to a 4 point scale starting in the 2019-2020 school year after the 12 point classes have graduated. Students can manually calculate current semester GPA by assigning each of their credit courses the following values, summing those numbers, and dividing by the number of credit courses enrolled:

A+: 4.0

A: 4.0

A-: 3.7

B+: 3.3

B: 3.0

B-: 2.7

C+: 2.3

C: 2.0

C-: 1.7

D+: 1.3

D: 1.0

D-: 0.7

F: 0.0

Re:     Parent/Teacher Conferences

All Edgewood parents and students are invited and encouraged to attend the student led parent teacher conferences this fall.  Fall break is scheduled for Thursday, October 26th and Friday, October 27th.  School will resume on Monday, October 30th.  Conference dates and times:

Tuesday, October 24, 2017        4:00 p.m. – 7:45 p.m.

Wednesday, October 25, 2017    8:40 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

There will be no conferences during the meal break on October 25th

Meal break:   10:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.

The conferences are conducted in an open format in the commons.  A map of teacher locations will be available at the front table.  You will also pick up your child’s report card at the front table.  You and your student may then visit any teachers you would like to talk with.

Here are a few pointers for how to make these conferences successful for everyone involved.

Successful Student-Lead Parent/Teacher Conference Strategies

  1. Please limit meeting with individual teachers to 10 minutes
-If more time is needed, please set up a time to meet with that teacher at another time.

  1. Allow your student(s) to lead the conference
-Our goal is to have your student(s) discuss their grades with you and their teachers in

order to help them take accountability for the grades they receive.

  1. Please honor the teacher’s dinner meal break
-Please end your meetings promptly at the teachers’ given break times and reschedule

if necessary.  Please allow the necessary time to start a meeting right before these

     hours.

  1. Keep all discussions positive:
-It takes school, parents and student working together for the best learning to take place.

Announcements via the intercom system will be made prior to break times to remind families and staff when those breaks are to begin.  Thank you and let us know if we can be of any assistance to you and your family.
