ANNOUNCEMENTS

It is important that if you wish to have insurance on your IPAD, you sign up online.  The optional, but highly recommended, iPad insurance deadline to purchase is at the end of this month, 8/30/19. The insurance link and option to purchase closes on August 30th. The link is available through the Warsaw Community Schools website.

Attention anyone in 7th or 8th grade interested in playing football.  We are accepting players for the next two weeks!  Come out and have fun, be a part of a team, and learn Warsaw Tiger Football!  If interested, come and tell Mr. Cook, and he will help you get set up! But, keep in mind, Last day is August 30th!

IPad It is important that if you wish to have insurance on your IPAD, you sign up online.  The optional, but highly recommended, iPad insurance deadline to purchase is at the end of this month, 8/30/19. The insurance link and option to purchase closes on August 30th. 8th-grade students will receive loaner iPad Airs with cases this year. Do not remove removed the protective shield. Remember these cases are to be returned at the end of the year with all pieces.  Insurance does not cover the case. Last year a large number of students removed the protective shield causing multiple damages which then students were billed to replace the cases. 

Cafeteria Students can bring money to the cafeteria to deposit money to their food account or parents can pay online. First thing in the morning before school begins is the best time to bring money to the cafeteria. Money that is brought before 9:30 can be used for the day’s lunch food.

Student Activity Fees ($20) canbe paid in the front office.

ID CARDS Each student must wear a clearly visible student photo identification card on a break-away lanyard each day at Edgewood Middle School. Replacements will cost $4.00 for an ID and $1.00 for a lanyard. Unpaid ID’s will result in school consequences. 

EMS DRESS CODE PROCEDURES Edgewood will permit holes in the jeans that are fingertip length and below. All tank tops and shirts must have shoulder coverage that is ID width.  Under garments should not be visible. No midriff shirts showing any skin.  Students wearing leggings must wear a long enough shirt that covers their front and back side. Skirts and shorts are to be fingertip length.

Students who violate the foregoing rules will not be admitted to class and should be sent to the front office. This will be addressed by teachers and the administrative staff.  These rules are in place so that we are demonstrating modesty as well as keeping the focus on the academic success for all students. Anything that is distracting to the educational environment is not appropriate attire for Edgewood Middle School.  Please consider how it looks through the eyes of a middle school student and would it be distracting to their learning.

REPORTING AN ABSENCE  Phone 371-5096

When a student is absent from school, the parent/guardian must contact the school by 9:00 a.m. on the day of each absence. If the parent does not contact the school within 24 hours of the absence, the absence is considered unexcused or truant. Unexcused absences or truancies can result in the student being assigned to a Friday School. Students are also reminded that they are allowed only seven days of absence during each semester. Students who exceed the limit of absences run the risk of not earning credit for the classes they miss. A parent letter for upcoming vacations is requested about a week in advance if possible.

ELearning: All eLearning days are 7 period day schedules. If we miss a Wednesday - eLearning would be 7 periods and odd block would move to Friday. If we miss a Thursday, elearning would be 7 periods and even block would be Friday.  If we miss both Wednesday Thursday - we will all be rested for Friday and Friday would be 7 periods.

Attention 8th grade members of National Junior Honor Society - it is time for your first meeting of the year to review expectations.  You are required to attend only ONE of the following meeting options: Tuesday Aug.20 at 7:00-7:25 am OR 2:45-3:10 pm OR Wednesday Aug.21 at 7:00-7:25 am OR 2:45-3:10 pm.  Please check your email and see Mrs. Fisher if you have any questions.

It is essential for all students to be registered each year.  We will be contacting parents that haven't registered their students. This process updates your student's records such as address changes, medical needs, etc.

Students, starting Monday, when the 7:25 bell rings in the morning, only those with bottom lockers should head down the halls to get into their lockers.  At 7:28, those with top lockers are released when this bell rings.  This will help reduce congestion. You still have plenty of time to get to class before the 7:35 bell.

8th grade Volleyball Team Tryouts will be held today only. 7th Grade Volleyball Tryouts are still on Wednesday and Thursday. Girls MUST have a physical on file in the office to tryout. Please see Mr. Wysong if you have any questions.

If you have an Appointment and will leave school before the end of the day, we ask that you have your parent write a note to give to the office. Bring your note to the office before school begins and you will receive a pass to come to the office at the time designated to leave. 

The Library is now open in the mornings before school starts. Students are welcome at 7:10 in the morning and stay until the bell rings for students to go to their locker. This is a great time to check out, renew, or return books. Students can also do homework in this quiet area before school. Before school students are to be in the Commons or the Library only. No lockers until that 7:25 bell!

Anything that is distracting to the educational environment is not appropriate attire for Edgewood Middle School.  Please consider how it looks through the eyes of a middle school student and would it be distracting to their learning. 

At this time, Edgewood will permit holes in the jeans that are fingertip length and below. All tank tops and shirts must have shoulder coverage that is ID width.  Under garments should not be visible. No midriff shirts showing any skin.  Students wearing leggings must wear a long enough shirt that covers their front and back side. Skirts and shorts are to be fingertip length.  Students who violate the foregoing rules will not be admitted to class and should be sent to the front office. This will be addressed by teachers and the administrative staff.

PHONES

Students are reminded to turn off phones and put them away when entering the building. This includes when you arrive before school and are waiting in the commons. If a student needs to contact their parent, he or she is to receive permission from an administrator, nurse or their teacher to call on a school phone.  

REPORTING AN ABSENCE  Phone 371-5096

When a student is absent from school, the parent/guardian must contact the school by 9:00 a.m. on the day of each absence. If the parent does not contact the school within 24 hours of the absence, the absence is considered unexcused or truant. Unexcused absences or truancies can result in the student being assigned to a Friday School. Students are also reminded that they are allowed only seven days of absence during each semester. Students who exceed the limit of absences run the risk of not earning credit for the classes they miss. A parent letter for upcoming vacations is requested about a week in advance if possible.

FOOD SERVICE
Students can bring money to the cafeteria to deposit money to their food account or parents can pay online. First thing in the morning before school begins is the best time to bring money to the cafeteria. Money that is brought before 9:30 can be used for the day’s lunch food.
