Girls Basketball Tryouts will be held from 6-8p at the high school TRAC today and on December 4th; and at the high school Tiger Den on December 5th from 6-8p. See the front office with questions.   

FCS will meet not meet this week.

REPORTING AN ABSENCE  Phone 371-5096 When a student is absent from school, the parent/guardian must contact the school by 9:00 a.m. on the day of each absence. If the parent does not contact the school within 24 hours of the absence, the absence is considered unexcused or truant. Unexcused absences or truancies can result in the student being assigned to a Friday School. Students are also reminded that they are allowed only seven days of absence during each semester. Students who exceed the limit of absences run the risk of not earning credit for the classes they miss. A parent letter for upcoming vacations is requested about a week in advance if possible.

APPOINTMENTS:  Just a reminder that the office needs to be notified about any appointments that will take students out of the building during the school day.  We also need a note from the doctor, dentist, orthodontist, etc. when a student returns to school. If possible, we ask that the students come to school before and/or after an appointment to minimize the amount of instruction he/she misses.  

Attendance is a critical factor that significantly affects student learning.  Students who are not in school miss out on important instruction. If possible, we would like students to be in school every day.  However, we do know that illnesses, emergencies and unexpected events can result in a student being absent. Parents have seven parent call in days each semester.  Our attendance office will call you between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. each day your child is absent, if you have not called the school. We’ve had a few family vacations requested, and these days of absence count towards the seven parent days.  If a student is going to miss 3 or more days for vacation, please send a note to the office and we will generate a teacher notification/assignment sheet that must be taken around and signed by each teacher prior to the vacation.  

IPAD POLICY Student iPads are the property of WCS. Inappropriate use of a school device can result in the loss of device privileges. Students must also have their iPad at school and fully charged at the start of every day. Failure to come to school prepared may result in consequences. Gaming resulting in a disruption of learning will be an automatic removal of ALL non-school issued gaming apps.

MESSAGES Phone calls and messages to students should be limited to emergencies only and any message or transportation issues received after 2:00p to the office may not be communicated with the student due to time constraints. 

EMS DRESS CODE PROCEDURES Edgewood will permit holes in the jeans that are fingertip length and below. All tank tops and shirts must have shoulder coverage that is ID width.  Under garments should not be visible. No midriff shirts showing any skin.  Students wearing leggings must wear a long enough shirt that covers their front and back side to be fingertip length. Skirts and shorts are to be fingertip length.

Students who violate the foregoing rules will not be admitted to class and should be sent to the front office. This will be addressed by teachers and the administrative staff.  These rules are in place so that we are demonstrating modesty as well as keeping the focus on the academic success for all students. Anything that is distracting to the educational environment is not appropriate attire for Edgewood Middle School.  Please consider how it looks through the eyes of a middle school student and would it be distracting to their learning.
