Edgewood football parents and players,

Hope you all have had a great summer!  The start of school is right around the corner as is the upcoming football season.  We as a staff have been working closely with the high school staff to learn the system we will be running though out all levels in the Warsaw football program.  We will be following the guidelines that have been given to us to a T.  This will be invaluable to our players and your sons as they move up through the Warsaw Tiger football program.  The middle school teams will be a mirror image of the high school team.  This will make everything second nature to them as they progress through the Warsaw football program.  We are excited to have the opportunity to work with you and your sons to make Warsaw football something special.  We have attached the practice and game schedule for the upcoming season.  If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact either one of  us at any time.  We look forward to meeting you soon.  GO TIGERS!!!

Thank you

Student Athletes wishing to participate or try out for sports in the 2017-18 school year, or those wishing to participate in summer conditioning, weight training, or open field/gym events held this spring and summer, will need to have an IHSAA-approved physical completed and on file in the student's school athletic office.

Athletic Physicals will be necessary for those wishing to participate in elementary, middle school, and for those wishing to participate in high school athletics.

Only physicals completed after April 1 of this year will be valid for participation for next school year, and physicals must be completed on the IHSAA form.

PHYSICAL NIGHT will run from 6pm until 8pm in the Career Center!  This is a great, low-cost ($25), and convenient opportunity for you to get your Athletic Physical.   Students currently in grades 8-11 can have their physical copied and the original can be maintained by the WCHS Athletic Office.  This will avoid it being misplaced before reaching the WCHS Athletic files.

Follow this link for a copy of the physical form:

All students currently enrolled at Edgewood Middle School are eligible to participate in athletics. Students must pass all subjects at progress report time (mid-term reports) and at the end of each grading period in order to remain eligible for participation in the athletic programs at Edgewood (team members, managers, etc.).

1.        Any student-athlete who receives one or more failing grades on a mid-term report or report card will be placed on a one-week probation period consisting of five school days. With that being said, the athlete may practice, but may NOT participate in any games, events, or competitions scheduled during the probation period. However, if a student-athlete completes their work and their grade(s) in the class (documented in the gradebook)  no longer reflects an F, athletic eligibility will be reinstated to full participation status.

2.        Furthermore, if the failing grade(s) has not been brought up to passing by the end of the five school days, the student-athlete will be placed on an additional one-week probation period. During the second week of the probation period, the student-athlete may NOT participate in practice or play in any event.

3.        Along the lines of the 1st point, student-athletes may be reinstated immediately to practice or playing in games if their grades are documented in the gradebook as not failing. However, if the failing grade(s) has not been raised to passing by the end of the second probation period, the student is now ineligible to practice or participate in athletics until the next mid-term report or report card is distributed.

4.        The Athletic Director, Administrative Assistant, and Coaches are all responsible for checking mid-term reports, report cards, and grades during the probation period for all athletes in their respective sports to determine athletic eligibility.

5.        The Principal, Athletic Director, or Coach may impose academic probation at any time.

Here at Edgewood, academic performance takes precedence over athletic performance.  Please do not hesitate to contact your student-athlete’s coach, teachers, or myself regarding this matter. I look forward to seeing your student-athlete in competition again soon.

Sincerely,

Michael Casey

Athletic Director/Assistant Principal

Before your athlete can begin to practice they MUST have Proof of a Current Physical no older than MAY 2nd of 2013, and a Proof of Insurance Waiver. The proof of Physical is the paper the doctor gives your athlete after their physical to turn into the school. The insurance waiver can be picked up at the school and filled out by the guardian. If your athlete does not have proof of a current physical they may not begin practice, NO Exceptions. An athlete must have 10 practices in before they are eligible to participate in games. Football is a tough and physical sport that requires intensity and committment. We work hard at practice and strive to develop essential football skills that will carry on to the high school level. If you have any questions, feel free to email me, Nick Walenga, at nwalenga@warsawschools.org. Thank you.
